:: Snake Canyon Gultch ::

Okay we really have to go back here one day when I'm not 8 1/2 months pregnant :) This hike was awesome. As usual, my instinct to go somewhere really cool started to kick in this weekend, even knowing I need to take it easy with only 4 or 5 weeks to go until some little monster's "birth"day. (Seriously, I've decided there is NOT a baby in there, but a tiny monster who loves ping ponging off various organs.) Anyhow, we thought it would be cooler (in temperature) if we drove into the forest and ended up finding this neat path that said "Kanab Creek Wildlife Area." There were also a bunch of signs showing us that somewhere along the path there would be awesome ancient petroglyphs and stuff...

Unfortunately the heat got the better of me and we had to turn around just shy of all the cool stuff. We WILL go back there and find those drawings, but probably not until fall. It had to have been 100 degrees out. Not to mention the ridiculous amount to grasshoppers who loved hopping all over my body, nearly causing me to have a heart attack about 10 thousand times over the course of our hike. Just ask Steve. He thought I was going into labor... Nope, just another grasshopper, honey :)

Can you spot the camouflaged lizard below? Neat :)

:: A "Grand" birthday for Steve ::

We've gotten into a custom of going on some really cool hike or adventure for birthdays since we moved here and I was determined to make Steve's 28th bday one to remember. I've definitely slowed down in the past few weeks and I'll admit that even very short hikes leave me completely winded and exhausted (I guess I was slightly delusional thinking I'd be able to keep going right up until our little son made his grand entrance...) Being 8 months pregnant now, I need to take it a little slower. Never the less, I wanted to do something fun and at the very least scenic for Steve's big day.

I made reservations for dinner at the Grand Canyon lodge.. basically this amazing structure that overlooks the canyon with big towering glass windows that make you feel like you are eating right no the edge. :-) It was a success. He was very happy and it was a beautiful day and evening. We even found some new peaks we have never been to at the North Rim and can't wait to go back with our son when he's born. Here are a few more pics from the weekend..

Happy Birthday Steve! I love you hon!! :)
